Stick insect writing

WALT: write an information report about stick insects

WILF:
- a title
- an opening sentence
- different paragraph
- factual information
- specific vocabulary

Are you wondering what a stick with legs is? Well, a stick with legs is actually called a stick insect.

Stick insects come from hot countries where there are plants and trees. You don't often see them in New Zealand, except in bush areas.

Stick insects can camouflage themselves. They camouflage so they can hide from their predators. Their predators are birds, small reptiles and rodents.

Stick insects only eat at night. They eat plants and trees that's why they like to live by plants and trees.

Stick insects only have three body parts, called the head, thorax and abdomen. There's 3 types of stick insect bodies. There's one that is smooth, another that is rough, and also one that is prickly.

So just a reminder, if you see a stick moving in the trees it will probably be a stick insect . Don't get confused between a stick and a stick insect.

Persuasive writing

WALT: to express an opinion and use powerful sentence starters to persuade the reader to agree with my opinion

I strongly believe that we should not have free time on iPads unless we are using learning apps. Playing games does not help with learning.

Evidence shows that these apps will increase our learning; Sumdog, Hopscotch, Math Panda, Kiwi Kid News, Storybird and

Fractions. Hopscotch is especially good because it is used for working out percentages and making repeating  patterns.

As we know there are heaps of games that have been released from the App Store and played world wide. For example Crossy Road and Minecraft are two popular games. These are the most distracting games in the world and do not help with our learning. They take over our learning time and our brains. We should not use games at school. We should not get free time on iPads for this reason.

It is obvious that during Managing Ourselves time we use good learning apps to catch up on work we need to do or finish. We use our iPads for working on things like vocabulary, Blogs, Kiwi Kid News and other learning apps. This a good way to use our iPads because we are using learning apps.

In conclusion I think iPads are good because they're good for learning as long as they aren't used for games.

Maths

WALT find the average temperature for the 5 day forecast

To find the average temperatures for these five days I have to add the allot the temperature together.

The total of all temperature = 65

The next step is to divide the total by the number of days.

I did my working out to see what the average is

five divide by 65 = 13

So the average temperature is 13
Degrees Celsius
